Cross Country Ride

The High Pastures and Ridgelines of the Carpathians

Cross Country Ride

A man on a horse is spiritually, as well as physically, bigger than a man on foot.”
— John Steinbeck

Step into the saddle and follow the trails once used by the Mikes family stud in the 19th century. This half-day ride takes you into the high pastures and ridgelines of the Carpathians, where horses were once bred for strength, endurance, and agility.

You will ride a descendant of Count Ármin Mikes’s historic bloodline, carefully revived in recent years. The route leads you to the crest at 1100 metres, then southeast into the wilderness toward Utválasz — a quiet clearing where you will enjoy a picnic of local cheese and ham.

On the return, pass through the Aratás Plateau and along the Hanging Terrace of the estate, with sweeping views over the entire basin.
