Bear Watching

In the forests surrounding Zabola Estate, you have the rare opportunity to observe wild brown bears in their natural habitat. Romania is home to over half of Europe’s bear population, and here, centuries of quiet coexistence continue.

Your journey begins with a short Land Rover drive and an easy walk into the woods, where one of our rangers will lead you to a secluded hide. There, as the forest settles into dusk, you may witness the bears emerge — a moment of stillness, presence, and awe. It is very rare not to see one.

Afterward, drinks are served in The Pavilion in the Woods, and you may choose to add a forest sauna or a candlelit dinner nearby.
